A little over 2 months ago, we had a chicken hatch some chicks.
As of that update, we did not have them in a chicken tractor. Since the 2 portable coops we had were not set up for winter.
Well, we lost 5 chicks, so we decided to make some changes to our larger coop.
I added some plywood to 2 of the walls to help with direct winds.
We added some netting across the bottom of the coop and filled it full of straw.
Since, momma was still sitting on them to keep them warm.
However, I’m not sure she ever sat on them in the coop, I quickly noticed they were perched on a box in the coop.
The first or second day in the coop, I went out to check on them, and noticed 3 of the chicks out.
Some of the netting we had that covered the chainlink was pulled up and they were able to get out.
When my bride came home, we were able to get 2 caught and put into the coop, but we never found the third.
So, from the starting 14, we’re down to 8.
We think only 2 of the remaining chicks are roosters. Which is great! That will allow us to add 6 hens to our flock, which will be great!
In today’s video, I show you the 2 chicken tractors and how we’re moving the main one.
(Spoiler, we’ve started doing it at night.)
