Finally got the LiFePO4 battery upgrade to the solar system.
This is a huge upgrade to our storage capacity!
Before, we had 5 – 100 Amp hour 12 volt batteries. Wired in parallel, giving us 500 amp hours at 12 volts.
However, because they were lead acid batteries, they shouldn’t be taken down below 50%, so we had 250 Amp hours of usable storage capacity.
Our new batteries are LiFePO4. So, instead of lead and acid from our old batteries (and most car batteries), the new ones are Lithium Iron Phosphate. With these, they can be taken all the way to zero, but I’ve read it’s best to not drop them below 10%,
So, with the old batteries, we had 250 Amp hours of useable storage capacity. These give us 720 Amp hours of useable storage capacity.
Almost 3 times as much!
Hopefully this will do what we want.
They may not, and if not, we’ll look at increasing solar capacity.
We’ll probably need to, but this is a huge step forward and will be used no matter what the next step may be.
