It’s 2026! Our homestead is a labor of love and it takes a bunch of grit, so we wanted to share our planned vision for 2026.
We just shared our accomplishments and failures from 2025.
Looking back is as important as looking and planning for the future.
We have several things planned but the order of these projects is still to be determined.
If I could manage to them them all done at once I would, but that’s not possible.
I think 2 of our highest priorty project are:
- Upgrade Solar: We’re actively planning an upgrade to our solar panels. So hopefully, we’ll get on this much sooner rather than later.
- Cover walkway between buildings: walking between our bedroom and living room while it is raining is no fun. So this is also another project that we’d like to see done soon.
But just because they may be the highest priority doesn’t really mean they’ll happen first. (though I hope they will).
Our other projects include:
- Install window(s) in bedroom cabin
- Paint the bedroom cabin – has to wait on the window.
- Increase water catchment capacity
- Gutter bedroom
- Power the fan on the composting toilet
Last on the list, but one that I’m looking forward to starting is clearing land for the house build.
We don’t intend to live in these cabins forever. If all goes well, one day, they may be an off-grid AirBnB, and/or places for friends and family to stay.
Because we’re planning to do most of the build work ourselves on the house, we wanted our cabins set up as much as possible.
As we are nearing that work, we’re starting to set our eyes towards our more permanent house on the other side of our land.
After making the video, I realized there were a few more things we’d like to do, so I’ve already added them to my to-do list.
- Set Up a greenhouse
- Add gate to the chicken run
- Remove rocks/stumps from solar field
So, as you can see, we’ve already got a busy year planned. And that doesn’t include things like hikes, kayaking, fishing, hunting and the like we enjoy doing on top of all that.
However, losing my job may (or may not) make a huge difference to our plans. While I do currently have a contract job, I’ll be searching for a new full time job. And what that may have in store for us is obviously yet to be determined.
We’re really looking forward to 2026 and all that it has to bring!
We hope you’ll follow along with us!
